Memorial Day!

Happy Memorial Day!  While many view today as a celebration of the beginning of summer, this holiday was established to commemorate those killed in military service to our country.  It is traditional to fly the flag today.  The flag should be flown at half-staff from dawn until noon - local time.

Did you know that when flying the flag at half-staff it should first be raised to full-staff and then lowered?  Did you also know that although there is a flag code, rules and regulation regarding the flag, there is no actual law enforcement of these rules?!

If you want to know more about flag etiquette click here.

I am off to manage an outdoor wedding at Norfolk Botanical Garden!  I'll post tomorrow.

Pyrotechnics

Sparklers continue to be popular for grand departures.  If you decide to use them they should be packaged for quick distribution and a way to light them!  Stick 2 or more in a match box (or secure with ribbon) that matches your color scheme.  I LOVE these match books/boxes/pouches from 2 Pyromaineiacs, Inc.

I have had a wonderful week off, spending time relaxing with with my husband and kids!

I did work a little on Tuesday.  I had the pleasure of assisting our client, Kristy, with her bridal portrait shoot.  We got to Norfolk Botanical Garden early to get her dressed.  We brought a sheet to keep the dress and bare feet off the floor, and allowed lots of time to lace the dress!  Keith Cephus earns his money AND makes you work for those great shots!  He had Kristy jumping, twirling, and running through fields - she is a great sport!  She gave permission to preview the shots.... but I am too nervous.  Take my word for it - she is BEAUTIFUL!  Helga Macko made the amazing bouquet - of Phaelenopsis, Mokara, and Cymbidium orchids - so yummy.  The wedding is in two weeks so I'll show you then.  It is our first event at Half Moone Cruise Terminal and it is going to be hot, Hot, HOT!

Half Moone Cruise Terminal

I went to the Erykah Badu and the Roots concert on Friday night with my son.  It was awesome and nostalgic.  I was happy for this (or any) shared interest!

My husband and I took our daughter to a birthday party Saturday morning at the World of Wonders (WOW) garden at Norfolk Botanical Garden.  This is a fun and wonderful spot with all kinds of things to see and do.  The fountains - that kids can run through - are a highlight!

We attended a "House Concert" on Saturday night.  The featured entertainment was Big Wide Grin who showcased a blend of original and classic folk inspired music played on guitar.

These acoustic concerts, hosted by individuals, have a coffee house feel and benefit Tidewater Arts Outreach (TAO).

"Tidewater Arts Outreach brings music and arts to  adult day programs, convalescent homes, hospitals, centers for individuals with disabilities, rehabilitation centers,  family homeless shelters, and other homes, facilities and institutions.  These performances, programs and activities promote human interaction, happiness and healing for people who have limited access to the arts, due to health, economic or social circumstances."

For more information on this organization or to have a House Concert, visit http://www.twartsoutreach.org/

We are off to the Chesapeake Jubilee!  I will be back in the office refreshed and ready to serve you on Monday.  Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

I've been tagged

In case you don't know - wedding consultants/planners are obsessed with all things wedding!  We Isha Fossread every article and blog we can find.  Imagine my surprise upon visiting "The World According to Weddlady", the blog by Shayna at Williamsburg Wedding Design, to find that I had been tagged.  When tagged you must reveal the requested information on your blog.  This tag requires me to list my 5 favorite cheesy songs - the ones you can't help but sing along to:

  1. U Can't Touch This - MC Hammer (My daughter, Tumbling Tigger, and I get down to this one!)
  2. The Power of Love - Celine Dion (Really anything Celine is a sing-a-long - I'm a love junkie)
  3. Fergalicious - Fergie
  4. Bootylicious - Destiny's Child
  5. I Swear - All-4-1 (oh the shame)

So now you know....

The Prom

Wow, my son Miles went to the prom last night!

I would not have imagined how excited I would be.  I really enjoyed going with him to pick his tux.  I really like what he chose - right down to his VANS skate shoes!  Since he only told me the week before the event, I had to scramble to find transportation (lest I have to drive him - NOT cool).  Fortunately my friends at Unique Car Service were available with just the right vehicle, a 1952 Cadillac Fleetwood Limo,  for my musician/skater boy!

Last week we had 3 events:

Sarah & Darrin were married at the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia - Congratulations!  Isha Foss Events provided planning & floral design.  Sarah came strolling in with her ultra cool rhinestone trimmed shades - she was feeling good in her beautiful gown.  It was her first choice - she later chose a second dress and then ended up in the first!  We had a great time with Sarah and her mom Natalie!

For Latoria's tropical themed wedding we made stunning bouquets of orange pincushion protea and yellow lilies with fatsia leaves and lily grass - waiting on pics!  The bride carried mango callas with green hypericum berries and italian ruscus accents - Yummy!

We were pleased to be asked to provide decor for an Israel @ 60 Gala reception at the Sandler Center.  The event celebrated Israel's 60 years of independence with proceeds to benefit youth missions.  It was our pleasure to donate to such a worthy cause.  Isha Foss Events donates time/decor/planning to one event each year.  To tell us about your event for 2009, please contact us at info@ishafossevents.com.
